Volleyball Splits Saturday Matches, Sesker Named to All-Tournament Team

ROANOKE, Va. – Hollins volleyball stretched their season win streak to six on Saturday with a three set sweep of Mary Baldwin before falling in three sets to Maryville to end the Maroon Classic hosted by Roanoke College. Sophomore Tyler Sesker was also named to the All-Tournament Team.

Vs Mary Baldwin

Hollins' first matchup of the day was a rematch of Wednesday's contest, which HU took 3-1.

The two teams traded points to start the first set, tying at 11 apiece before Hollins went on a 5-0 run, highlighted by three straight kills by Hannah Arthur. MBU battled back to tie the match at 17 and even pulled ahead 18-17 and 20-19 but with the scored tied at 20, Hollins reeled off five straight to win 25-20.

Set two was just as close, with MBU tying or leading for a majority of the set. As the Fighting Squirrels led 20-18, HU three straight points from Kenna Esquibel to retake the lead. MBU pulled back ahead 22-21, but HU responded with a block from Sesker and Charlie Vollmers, a Kiki Speights kill and three Mary Baldwin errors to take set 2, 25-23.

Hollins took the opening point of set three and never looked back. MBU was able to pull within two at 14-12, but four straight from HU widened the lead and Sesker ended the match emphatically with her sixth kill of the day. Arthur had a match-high 11 kills while Casey Mahan and Zoe Brooks added 16 and 15 assists, respectively. Hannah Piatak had 16 digs to pace the defense while Amanda Mink had 12.
