Hollins Completes Sweep Of Trinity

Roanoke, VA - The Hollins volleyball team welcomed Trinity Washington to their home court for a non-conference match on Monday night. It was the second time that Hollins had battled the Tigers, winning earlier this season in Washington, DC.

Hollins recorded 28 service aces in her earlier match with Trinity (DC) and tonight once again used the service line to gain a big early advantage. Hollins served up 11 aces in the first set, followed by nine in the second to race out to a 2-0 lead. Courtney Chappell served four straight aces and six total as she helped Hollins to an 11-0 lead to start the match. 10 kills later and Hollins took the opener. The second set saw an identical 10 kills on 17 attacks to assist Hollins in a 25-5 win. In the third set the home team started to get a little sloppy, committing five attack and two service errors to give their guests life. However, the green and gold would regain their composure and add 11 kills and four more service aces to take the set, 25-8, and the match 3-0.

Chappell finished the night with eight service aces, six kills, and a pair of digs. Setter Sarah Freeman enjoyed the best all-around match of her first collegiate season. Freeman assisted on 20 of Hollins 31 kills while adding five kills, three service aces, and three digs. Brie Faircloth led Hollins for the third straight match at the net with eight kills. Amanda Mink served six aces while Charlie Vollmers added six kills and a solo block.

Kenna Brooks had two of the Tigers five kills. Tatiana Marroquin handed out three assists and Ramona Santana recorded three digs for Trinity.

Hollins will back on her home floor tomorrow night when they welcome Southern Virginia to town. The match is scheduled to begin at 6:30pm.
