Event: Tennis - Salem at Hollins (Roanoke, VA)
The lead: The Hollins tennis team was back in action for the second of three matches in four days when they played host to Salem College on Sunday afternoon. It was a sandwich match after falling to Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) rival Randolph College on Friday, while waiting for a visit from Meredith College on Monday.
The result: Salem College 7-2
How it happened: After falling behind 0-2, the #1 doubles team of Sarah Jordan Snoddy and Valerie Sargeant rallied to pick up the win at #1 doubles. In singles play, Snoddy made it two for two on the afternoon with a win at #3 singles. However, Hollins was unable to turn the tables on a Spirit squad that beat them 9-0 back in the fall.
- Snoddy and Sargeant trailed in doubles before taking five of the final six games to claim the 8-5 win
- After falling in a heartbreaking 12-10 tie breaker on Friday, Snoddy picked up her first win of the season at #3 singles (6-4 and 6-4)
- Sargeant lost a hard fought first set, 5-7, at #2 before scumming to her opponent and leg problems in the second set
- At #1 singles, Kateri Johnson fell 6-3 and 6-3 in the second longest match of the afternoon
What's next: Hollins will continue non-conference play on Monday when Meredith College comes calling for a 4pm start.
