Event: Tennis - Virginia Wesleyan at Hollins (Roanoke, VA)
The lead: A rainy Sunday morning cleared up for the first of three matches on the courts at the Batten Tennis Center. Hollins played host to Virginia Wesleyan to kick off the festivities as the weather broke and and the teams took the courts about two hours after the scheduled start time.
The result: Va. Wesleyan 9-0
How it happened: The Marlins raced out to a 3-0 advantage after doubles play. Hollins looked to pick up a few wins in singles play against their Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) rivals. However, the Marlins took the momentum they gained during doubles action and completed the sweep of Hollins for their first conference win of the season.
- At #2 singles Valerie Sargeant lost a hard fought first set, 2-6, before falling to her opponent
- The #2 doubles pair of Kateri Johnson and Alexis Morring took a game off the Marlins #2 duo
- The best doubles match of the day was at #1, Sarah Jordan Snoddy and Sargeant played their opponents deep into the games before falling, 8-2
What's next: Virginia Wesleyan will turn around and play Ferrum in a neutral site match before Hollins plays host the the Panthers later this afternoon.
