PNORFOLK, Va. -- Despite falling to Virginia Wesleyan 6-1 on Saturday, that 1 for Hollins made some history.
In the 72nd minute, after a foul gave Hollins a free kick on their half of the field, Madisen Charles booted a long pass, past three Marlin defenders and found a streaking Stephanie Samoy who beat the diving VA Wesleyan goalkeeper to the bottom left corner to net her team-leading seventh goal of the season and the assist was Charles' third. This was historic because this goal was the first Hollins has ever scored against the Marlins in the program's 21 year history.
Virginia Wesleyan jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with a goal in just the fifth minute of play. They tacked on the game winner in the 16th minute and added two more in the first half and two more in the second half.
Kendra Rich had 10 saves for Hollins who falls to 4-5 overall and 0-2 in the ODAC. VA Wesleyan improved to 6-2-2 overall and 2-1 in the ODAC.
Hollins will continue it's road trip with a contest in Winchester against Shenandoah on Wednesday, Oct. 9. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 pm.
