ROANOKE, Va. - It's safe to say that Kayla Surles went off.
The sophomore point guard, who returns as the Green and Gold's leading scorer, picked up right where she left off at the end of last season, dropping 34. But it wasn't enough as the Falcons of Pfeiffer University (1-1, 0-0 USA South) dropped Hollins (0-1, 0-0 ODAC) 80-74 in overtime.
How It Happened

After Pfeiffer built up a four point lead, Kayla Surles hit her first three of the game, bringing the lead back to one. The two teams traded buckets to 13 until Pfeiffer went on a 4-1 run to take a 17-14 lead after one.

The Falcons would tie it right back up but a pair of Tyler free throws gave the Green and Gold a 29-28 halftime lead.
Pfeiffer came out firing to start the third, going on a 15-4 run and taking a big 43-33 lead. Hollins cut the deficit to eight with a Tyler layup, but Pfeiffer kept the lead to at least nine until late in the quarter. With just over two minutes, a layup and one from Keyazia Taylor cut the lead to seven, giving Hollins a more manageable deficit to start the fourth.
In the fourth, Kayla Surles put the team on her back. With Hollins trailing 55-46. Kayla Surles went on a 9-0 run of her own to tie the game. Her final three of the quarter came with 28 seconds left the HU trailing 68-65. Her bucket sent the crowd into a frenzy and the game into overtime.
The extra period, however, belonged to the Falcons as Hollins just couldn't find the momentum they had in the fourth. Pfeiffer outscored HU 12-6 in the OT period to pick up the win.
Kayla Surles' game-high 34 came on an efficient shooting night as she finished 10-14 from the field, including 7-9 from three. Tyler was just one rebound shy of a double-double as she finished with 15 points and nine boards. Lenah Clements, who was playing in her first collegiate game, finished with a game-high seven assists.
