Hollins Kicks off IHSA Season with a Win

ROANOKE, Va. - The Hollins riding team kicked off their 2019-20 IHSA schedule against some of the top teams in the state of Virginia.

When the dust settled, it was the HU Green and Gold on top as Hollins edged out JMU, UVA and Virginia Tech to take first place in the Hollins IHSA (Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association).

Showing riders brought home two firsts, six seconds, one third, three fourths, one fifth and one sixth for a total of 35 points, two points ahead of the second place schools.

The three riding seniors, Katie Grandelli, Katelyn Mosmiller and Alex Sanchez contributed 12 of HU's 35 points in their last home IHSA meet.

As the show entered its last two classes of the day, Hollins trailed by two points. But introductory riders Sarah Grace Himes and Sanchez won their classes to secure the Hollins victory.
