Lynchburg, VA - Wednesday night marked the first of a three game road trip for the Hollins volleyball team. Lynchburg was the first stop for Hollins as they looked to get into the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) win column versus the Hornets.
The Hornets used an 8-2 run in the first set to open up a lead, 12-6. Hollins would cut the deficit to just two but Lynchburg would pull away late for the 25-18 opening set victory. The home team used a sizeable advantage at the net, 39-14, to control the action throughout the match. The second set saw the Hornets use a 6-0 start to seize control and took the second set, 25-15. The finale saw the hosts from Lynchburg score 20 of the first 23 points en route to closing out Hollins, 3-0.
Brie Faircloth led Hollins with six kills and 10 digs, both team highs. Kiki Speights and Courtney Chappell combined for six kills and three assisted blocks. Sarah Freeman registered eight of Hollins 15 assists and Hannah Piatak recorded nine kills and two service aces.
Sydney Frink had 11 of Lynchburg's 39 kills. Lynn Walsh led with 19 assists and Lauren Stanford dug out 14 Hollins attacks. The Hornets recorded 11 service aces, five by Katie Heenan.
Hollins will make an overnight trip to Pennsylvania over the weekend. After a stop in Altoona to face Penn State, Hollins will wrap up their road trip against Mount Aloysius on Saturday.
