Hollins Plays Host To Tri-Match

Roanoke, VA - After finishing up on the court with Eastern Mennonite last night, Hollins was right back in action on Saturday morning when they hosted one of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference's (ODAC) best. Bridgewater College, fresh off a win at Roanoke College last night, came to Hollins looking to make it two conference wins in a row.

Hollins would need to rebound from their match against the Royals to try to pull off the upset of the high-powered Eagles. Hollins more than held their own in the first part of the opener and the score was tied 4-4. However, Bridgewater would win 11 of the next 13 points to seize control of the match. Hollins played their guests even the rest of the way but it was Bridgewater with the 25-13 victory. In the second set, it was all the Eagles as Bridgewater stormed out to an early advantage, 8-1. The visitors used their deep bench to rotate fresh attackers as they enjoyed a 15-7 kill advantage in the second frame win, 25-11. Hollins battled in the third and hung close but at the mid-way point of the set, the Eagles once again surged ahead and went on to sweep Hollins, 3-0.

Charlie Vollmers recorded six kills on her 17 attacks and picked up a solo block. Setter Sarah Freeman added 20 assists and four digs while Casey Mahan posted four kills and eight digs.

Carleigh Studtmann connected on 12 of her 17 attacks with Deja Booker adding 10 kills. Victoria Wilson handed out 23 helpers to go with her eight kills and 10 digs.

Bridgewater will play John Wesley before the tri-match finished up with Hollins playing host to the Lions at approx. 3:00pm.
