Roanoke, VA - For the second time this season, the Hollins tennis team is on a winning streak. After starting their four match, spring break trip with back to back wins, Hollins used a 9-0 win over Trinity to once again see their winning streak reach two matches. Hollins defeated Emory & Henry, 8-1, last Friday and will take their steak on the road in two days when they travel to face their arch rivals from Sweet Briar College.
As the season hits it's final stretch, Hollins hosted Trinity (D.C.) in a rare, late season, non-conference match. The home team wasted little time in taking control of the matchup. Hollins finished off all three doubles matches in less than 40 minutes. Jhovanna Salmeron and Kate Woodruff won at the top spot, 8-1, while the tandem of Kateri Johnson and Olivia Dannon ran their season record to 2-1 with a, 8-0, win at #2. At the #3 spot, Amelia Verkerk teamed with Juliette Baek for another 8-0 victory.
In singles play, Salmeron, Woodruff, Baek, and Valerie Sargeant won their matches, 6-0 and 6-0, without dropping a game. Sarah Jordan Snoddy and Liz Rochow made it a clean sweep for the Green and Gold with (6-0 and 6-1) individual wins.
The win allows Hollins to take a two match win streak into their, all important, matchup with the Vixens. Hollins is currently 2-3 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play and with a win would move into a tie for sixth place going into the final two weeks of conference play.
