Greensboro, NC - Sunday marked the final day of the 2018 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Swim Championships. The three-day event consisted of 18 events and was held at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. Hollins finished in sixth place, 70 points clear of her arch rivals from Sweet Briar, in the 12 team field.
On the final day of the meet, Hollins placed a pair of swimmers in four of the five individual events. The first event was the 200 Backstroke and Grace Davis and Maya Schattgen each earned a berth in the finals after their preliminary heat. Davis finished 14th while Schattgen secured 16th place points in the final heat. Emily Miehlke and Alex Sanchez duplicated their teammates efforts with a 14th and 16th place finish in the finals of the 100 Freestyle.
In the 200 Breaststroke, Hollins saw their first top 10 of the evening when Hanna DeVarona posted a time 2:33.43 to come home eighth in the final race. In the same event, Molly Sullivan also recorded points with her 15th place effort. The final individual event to be contested was the 200 Butterfly with Schattgen and Davis once again earning a spot in the finals. With a time of 2:28.53, Schattgen posted another top 10 finish when she touched ninth while Davis finished 14th.
The final event of the meet was the 400 Freestyle Relay. The Hollins team of Sanchez, Schattgen, Miehlke, and DeVarona took aim at the field and posted a time of 3:55.64, almost two seconds clear of the old Hollins record that was set back in 1991 (3:57.36).
With the close of the 2018 ODAC Championships, Hollins sixth place finish equaled that of the preseason poll as voted on by the league's coaches back in early October.
