Bridgewater, VA - As the basketball season quickly comes to a close, Hollins made a trip to Bridgewater for an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) matchup on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles came into the game sitting in ninth looking to try to move up the standings in order to host a first round contest in the upcoming conference tournament while Hollins sits in 12th and in line for a matchup with the fifth place league finisher.
Hollins got off to a great start with a Tayler Broyles three pointer and after an Emily Jo Huffard hoop, took a 5-0 lead in the first three minutes of play. Bridgewater would score before another Hollins score made it 7-2. However, the Eagles would close the quarter on a 15-2 run to seize control of the game and take a 17-9 lead into the second period. Poor shooting would plague both teams during a second quarter that would see neither score for the first four minutes of play. The offenses would never get going and the two teams combined for just 14 second period points. After playing even for the next 10 minutes of action, the Eagles would carry a 14 point advantage into the final quarter of play, 42-28. Bridgewater would score the first six points of the frame and Hollins would get no closer as the Eagles went on to win, 63-37. Neither team had a great night from the field with Hollins shooting 29.1% (16-55) and the host Bridgewater finishing just 32.9% (25-76).
Briana Moore and Rebecca Harvey each recorded double-doubles for the Eagles. Moore had 14 and 10 while Harvey finished with 12 and 11.
Hollins will host their finale home game on Wednesday night when they welcome Roanoke College for a 7:00pm tip.
